Women in Politics| To be or not to be.

Thoughts on my mind.

Sometimes I feel for women in politics.

To climb to the top they have to adjust to a world that’s not so accommodating, friendly or even interested in them, and the only way they may survive is to lose a part of who they are.

It’s must be a confusing place to be and I think of the many times Hilary was attacked for not looking approachable, nurturing or even for being too loud and all the many other standards they held her to that they didn’t her male counterparts.

They must be intelligent but not overbearing, nurturing but stern;they have to be appealing, friendly, kind, motherly (especially) but still prove that with all these combined qualities they’re qualified for their role. ( these are all prejudices I’ve held before and had to consciously check)

They have to know how to play with the boys, get down and dirty if they want to be on the same playing field; BUT they’re also judged by the very people egging them to adapt for being too “hard”.

I have a headache just thinking about it.

But then I realize that it always boils down to character and the reasons why they want to be leaders in the first place.

Do they want to change the world and make a difference OR are they trying to check of a selfish ambition.

This is will be the bases for the path they chose.

To either lose them selves to fit in and jump to the top or stay true to who they are, struggle on a much longer path which may not always yield results, but maintain their integrity all through.

Unfortunately not many woman have been able to resist the urge to jump in the mud; and I can’t even fault them because I recognize my own struggles with choosing integrity.

But they have to remember that when they pick the mud, it becomes something that’s very hard to wash off.
